Edmond Rentz Sylvaner “Vielles Vignes”

For over 20 years, Catherine and Patrick have been striving to develop more environmentally friendly farming practices and today they have committed to a High Environmental Value (HVE) process which, like the organic label, is an accreditation that recognises the preservation of the environment.

This accreditation, with performance-based obligations in terms of biodiversity, vine protection, fertilisation and protection of water resources, fully meets the objectives of the Grenelle Environmental Forum.

This spirit allows them to peacefully practice their winemaking craft, producing healthy and authentic wines that express the aromatic purity of the vine and unearth the spirit of the terroir.

It was in Zellenberg in 1785 that Thomas Rentz became fascinated by winemaking, set up his own vineyard and produced his own wine for consumption by his family and some local taverns.

From 1920 onwards, Edmond Rentz expanded the size of his vineyard and dedicated his life to Alsatian wines. He was one of the first to use modern bottling techniques from 1930 onwards, where he decided to personalise the quality of his wines and place his name on each bottle, thus creating the Edmond Rentz brand.

His son Raymond Rentz took over the estate in 1953 and expanded his vineyards to include Zellenberg, Riquewihr, Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé and Bergheim. He built a new winery and combined ancient traditions with modernity. He worked hard to further improve the quality of his wines, vinifying both vines and terroirs.
Catherine Rentz and her brother Patrick joined the family business in 1995 and developed a more environmentally friendly way of viticulture. However, this evolution remains true to the family spirit of always seeking to improve the quality, distinction and authenticity of their wine.
Edmond Rentz is located in the heart of Alsace, between Riquewihr and Berghei, and consists of 27 hectares of vineyards spread over an area with numerous geological faults.
