The winery was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Luigi Montemartini, a natural scientist and Deputy of the Kingdom of Italy. The vineyards and the Ziano estate belonged to the Montemartini family until 1914. In the following years there was a continuous change of ownership that ended in 1991 when some partners invested in the territory and took over the 50 hectares of vineyards.
Cantine Casabella was founded in 1991 and grew in 1998 when it acquired the Castell’Arquato Winery, which was given the vineyards of the large area between Ziano and Val d’Arda.
