Mer Soleil Silver

$725.00

The wine was fermented and aged in natural cement tanks imported from France, which gave the wine clean aromas and brilliant clarity. We celebrate this vintage with the new ceramic and cork bottle.

Vivid minerality with citrus and stone fruit notes on the nose. Perfect fruit flavours of grapefruit, lemon and currant shine on the palate, complemented by a marked acidity that remains throughout.

Mer Soleil Winery is owned by the Wagner family. In 1997 Charlie Wagner II took over the brand that his father started in 1988. The name Mer Soleil comes from the two natural forces that meet in the vineyard: “Mer = Sea” and “Soleil = Sun”. Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1971 in Rutherford (California, USA), by Charlie Wagner and Lorna Belle Glos Wagner, after a long history of vineyard cultivation, dating back to 1906.

In 1972 Charlie Wagner, his wife Lorna and their son Chuck produced their first vintage, using grapes from their 55 hectares of vineyard, at a winery named after the Mexican land concession known as Rancho

Caymus, granted to George Yount in 1836, encompassed what later became the town of Rutherford and surrounding areas. Today the vineyards are still being operated by the family in the fifth generation, led by Chuck, Joe and Charlie Wagner, with nearly 350 hectares, in 14 different locations in the Napa Valley area, planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grape varieties, with an average age of 40 years.
They make their wines in Napa Valley (California, USA) under the brands Conundrum, Mer Soleil, Belle Glos and of course Caymus.

Charlie Wagner II, 4th generation Napa Valley winemaker with roots dating back to 1906, is named after his late grandfather Charlie Wagner, founder of Caymus Vineyards. Charlie Jr. began specializing in Chardonnay production when he was just 17 years old. By 2004 he took over the production of Mer Soleil Winery. The winery's production is based on two styles of 100% Chardonnay wines.

Mer Soleil Chardonnay is a style of wine that is aged in French barrels and Mer Soleil SILVER, the second brand, is a wine fermented and aged in small natural cement tanks imported from France. Charlie Wagner Jr. continues to develop techniques that best suit the grape crops in the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation in Monterey County.
